I am grateful that:
I am not starving. I am literate. I am employed. I work doing something I like. I make a difference doing what I do. I do not live in a place where there are violent protests. I have friends. I live somewhere I like. I am able. I own a bicycle. I live in a place with a public library. Etc.

In our office at school there is a big box of letters. A lot of letters. 369 so far and nearly another 100 coming tomorrow for us to retrieve on Monday. These letters are from students, to someone special(to be revealed once the box is in the mail) we hope will visit us at Thurgood Marshall Elementary. I miss...
Summer. A lot. Especially since I started reading “The Road” by Jack London, where he recollects sleeping overnight in a field and being warm enough to sleep straight through the night. IN CANADA!!!! Also, I miss sitting in Rittenhouse Park with people and napping on the grass, bike locked in my legs to keep it safe. I miss when cold drinks were refreshing, instead of hurting my...

Felt good to be back at school
First day back started off great. Rode in on my bike. All 8.2 miles. A student who cursed me out and and pushed me and was suspended for it right before break walked right up to me this morning and apologized for it. That felt amazing. My students, though a tad rowdy were happy to see me. Even if we were missing a few. Tons of teachers and elementary students were greeting me to tell me what...
